The Winter Garden
The winter garden is a story about a bunny family with a few picky eaters who only like to eat fresh lettuce. This is a problem for a family of bunnies that live in New England. Mama, Papa, and the kits work together to make a cold frame, a type of greenhouse, so the family can enjoy homegrown lettuce all winter long.
B Street Soup
Sam is excited to show Mama and Grandma the seedlings her teacher gave her for the last day of school. Mama says they will not grow in their shady apartment, so Grandma comes to the rescue by commandeering a patch of earth near their apartment. One by one, the neighborhood joins in to make a community garden. City officials come to inspect the garden, and everyone is worried. So Sam hosts a vegetable soup festival, and she invites the city officials to be the neighborhood’s guests of honor. A food festival ensues, and Sam is awarded a blue ribbon for good citizenry.
